Creating Exotic and Local food forests

It will take a massive effort to restore local ecologies and provide food forests as alternative to chemical farms. One can join our effort by adding their land to this project, or if there is no land, they can help spread the word and act as our local representative.

All our policies, transparency, and value sharing are directed towards a huge collaborative effort.

The food forests can primarily be classified into two types:

A. LOCAL Food forests

Those located in vast plains, and / or closer to large urban centres. These are similar in flora and fauna and vary by a lesser degree across the country. The temperature, humidity, rainfall, altitude etc. profile also have lesser range across the sub-continent.

These food forests can meet bulk of regular annual consumption, and being closer to urban centres i.e large population, the carbon footprint of transporting such foods is much lower. Also, they provide a 'closer to home' opportunity to regularly associate with food forests, for a larger population.

B. Exotic food forests:

These are located in distant forests, higher altitudes like lower and upper himalayas, closer to deserts, western ghats, coasts, river basins or special climatic and geographic conditions areas.

These were known for herbs, spices, flowers and other flora, only found in those conditions, and of immense value to human health. A few of the products from there shall be mass products like Apple, but rest shall be exotic in nature.

These food forests play a vital role not only in our health, but also the health of local ecologies, which in turn is critical to river flows, monsoons, etc. and hence critical for Local Food Forest ecologies.

Hence we see that both Local and Exotic food forests are critical and a huge network of them shall be needed.

ALL forests can have dual nature- they can be Exotic and can also be used for local supplies.

Our effort is to keep increasing the foot print of food forests across the country.

LOCAL Food forest effort:

Our Local Food Forest projects are in Sohagpur , Pipariya (MP) , Kanpur (UP), Chandrapur (Maharashtra).

Another great thing to happen is that a very devoted team from Punjab is seeking guidance here.

They have been trying to create food forests there but struggling with models.

Exotic Food forest Efforts

Our collaborations are in multiple locations, from North to South as follows:
Srinagar (Uttarakhand), Vilĺage Thapla:

Entire set of mountains is calling for setting up a role model for Garhwal and kumaun. We have started with one patch.I realized the potential of high altitude food forests. The area once was the natural habitat of very diverse flowers and exotic herbs. More about the flora and products in another post.
The terrific views of snow clad mountains and Pauri below, from this farm, add to the beauty of food forest here. One wont get a better experience in upper himalayas than this project.

Kinnaur and Solan :

Beautiful sahjivan farm is our base and guide.

Apart from planning many products for Aranyaani from Sahijivan project, we also are planning how to restore mountains around.

'

Bithoor (Kanpur):

Ganges belt. Multiple small.guava orchards are the starting point. We are working with the farmers and UBA-IITK to change the orchards' economy and ecology.
First year of our work, will slowly convert to full ecology food forests.

MP: 40 different villages in 5 districts. Each project differently and more beautiful than the other.

In addition, we have received dedicated interest from many areas and have prima facie reached a comfort level with long term goals in some places. So these shall start sooner than later- Delhi, Imphal, Sikkim, Chandigarh ( Punjab may have many more Projects as word spreads) , Shimoga, Tanjavore.
Apart from it, from seeded areas, the word backed by the sight and action spreads to neighboring villages afar.
